louis-vuitton-monogram-denimI went shopping yesterday, it was much less a window shopping, which I love to do because I get a good idea of what’s in and what’s not. And even I could grab myself a bargain! But to tell you, there are times that I fall in love with stuff that I couldn’t even wait for a bargain… [smirk] I think I am a sensible shopper. I used to be a shopaholic, but my perspective of shopping gradually changed overtime. Not just because I wanted to change it, but something I read on an article that was all about it.

I began to criticize the person who fights for a bargain at the boutique for a handcraft while having an high end designer hand bag hanging on her shoulder. The one who’s in designer high heels that matched her hand bag. The one who wears a watch which is insured that cost her more than her health insurance! How that person forgets the fact that she had already paid even twenty times more than the actual value. rsvp2 I wouldn’t want to argue about the happy feeling that somebody gets when he’s “rich” enough posses such a “valuable” item. And I must say that I understand the “connection” between “quality” and “value”. But I’m afraid that most of the people have no idea to place “sensibility” to that “connection”.

I question myself often how so many of us had forgot or don’t know how to value a “person’s” hard work on a certain product that’s on for sale. Or how people hesitate to give something for charity, even on giving up some old clothes to “Salvos“! So Who wears “Prada”???? Devil???? Nah… don’t think so…..! It’s just people like you and me.. :)

I guess the reason people bargain is, most of the time the sellers actually expect you to bargain, and set a very high price initially. This happens a LOT in bangkok and hong kong..
But yeah I get pissed when a well-to do looking man/woman complains over prices that are actually quite reasonable -thats just being mean.
Personally, I’m not a good bargainer, and the only time I’ve argue over prices in Lanka is over three-wheeler fares. :)

    Niroshinie,
I got your point, but what I meant was I go “bargain hunting” basically like going for discount sales and EOFY sales, stock take sales etc. Here sellers/shop owners have to mention the value and even have to stick to the rules. Not like in SL, Bangkok or Hong kong. So it’s not that I go to shops and bargain, it’s not in practice here. :)

lolz.. as Niroshinie said, only thing i bargain mostly is the three-wheeler fares lolz :)

    Hey Sam,

Lolz… Good post babe!! One of Singaporeans’ masterpiece.. Ooops.. Am i degrading my own country?? Hahaha.. Actually by right to say its norm among the asians babe! So we can’t compare asians with other continents..

    Again as Niroshinie said,
its very much true that the sellers setting higher cost as they actually expect the buyers to “bargain”. Hmm as for those who are so called “rich” bargaining for goods which are reasonable; appalled by that!=D Hahaha.. Probably they bargain for all the goods they purchase.. Lolz.. =D So they aren’t rich to me..

& Me.. hehe.. Whether 3 wheelers or boutique or whatever.. I don’t really like the idea of bargaining even though am a lil kind of a “shopoholic” .. For me if i feel that the price of the good is more then it should be, I rather not get it there..

Anywayz darlz.. pertaining to ur recent post on the comment by Mr/Ms “Anon the great”..[does he/she even have the capability to write] to even comment on ur posts??? If so.. i guess he/she do not even have the sense of taste.. =D guess he or she do not have any writing sense.. Hahaha.. This is a good post and your personal experience and opinion. This is your blog. U have every right to point down anything you want.. So babe.. Keep writing!!!

    Love,

    Naz ;)

Yeah Naz, I know…! I suppose you all understood what I was saying. Even in SL I never knew how to bargain. I’ll leave whatever I picked up and turn back if it was too expensive. But there were times that I’ve been offered a better price as I walk away!

Nothing in the world is permanent, and we’re foolish when we ask anything to last, but surely we’re still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it. If change is of the essence of existence one would have thought it only sensible to make it the premise of our philosophy.
